Biographical Information
:

John Albano is a guitarist, composer, recording artist, and instructor of music based in California. He has toured nationally with Sony/Columbia recording artist/vocalist Steve Tyrell. In support of the CD A New Standard on Atlantic Records, the Tyrell group completed a tour with appearances in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, and the Island of Nevis in the West Indies. John has also appeared on The Donny & Marie Show. He has performed both solo and with many groups and artists extensively throughout California, Las Vegas, and New York (in jazz clubs and the streets and subways in Greenwich Village).

After many years of performing and earning a living as a freelance guitarist, John has taken a step forward as an artist with a unique sound and style. His new CD Collage combines some of the melodic elegance reminiscent of Pat Metheny and the nuevo flamenco flavor of Ottmar Leibert together with his own arrangements to create a very special musical blend. Most of the songs on the CD are original pieces written and arranged for the 5 member Latin jazz group on the recording, as well as a solo guitar arrangement of the beautiful traditional song “My Wild Irish Rose."

John has a Master’s degree in Guitar Performance from USC and a BA degree in Jazz Studies from Sonoma State University. Currently, John is the director of the guitar program and jazz studies at Merced College.
